In January of 2012, Antonio Graceffo went to Ultimate MMA Academy in Johro Bahru, Malaysia, to train and film for 10 days. Three months later, he was still sleeping on the floor in the academy, training twice a day and fighting as often as possible.

Ultimate MMA, under Jiao Lien Melvin Yeoh is a special place where lots of lost and wandering martial artists come to share their skills with each other. The academy holds monthly MMA fights as well as frequent Muay Thai fights. Fighters from the academy also compete in larger, professional MMA fights in Kuala Lumpur.

Kimberly Lee Tan is a former professional fighter who quit his job, returned to the academy and is looking to make a comeback. He is Antonio’s primary sparring partner and secondary teacher, after Melvin Yeoh. Melvin has had countless professional Muay Thai fights as well as a good number of MMA fights. Together, the three, plus a leading student, named Zeus, are training and fighting, trying to make their way up the ladder of MMA from Malaysia, to Singapore or Hong Kong, to Japan, or maybe further.

Win, lose, or draw the academy is all about personal development and empowerment. Every student at the academy is also a teacher, almost from day one. It is a place where many young people have learned leadership skills and many people old and young have learned both self-confidence, and humility.
